Zomato Launches 'Food Rescue' Feature to Reduce Food Waste and Offer Discounts
Recently, Zomato debuted a fresh and creative tool meant to reduce food waste that would help consumers, eateries, and delivery partners all around. Dubbed "Food Rescue," the new tool lets users buy once cancelled or unclaimed meals at a discounted price. Everyone engaged benefits from it; here is how it works.
How It Is Done
Living three kilometres from a Zomato delivery partner, you might soon find yourself in a position to save a meal otherwise destined for the garbage. When a delivery is cancelled or an order is not picked up, Zomato will show that item on the app as a discounted, rescueable order – but only for a limited while. The claim option will only last a few minutes to guarantee that the food is still fresh and safe for consumption.
The best thing is... The food will cost less, and in the course of things, you will assist cut food waste. Furthermore, if you paid online, the money you spend goes to the original customer as well as the restaurant. Apart from relevant government taxes, Zomato is not keeping any of the earnings in pocket.
Food Rescue helps who?
Food Rescue seeks to establish a system whereby everyone gains:
Consumers have the chance to buy food at a lowered price.
Restaurants can offset some of the cost of the cancelled order and prevent throwing away food.
Having their work recognised through pay for delivering these "rescued" meals benefits delivery partners as well.
It's a fantastic approach to provide food that would otherwise go to waste some worth once more.
What Is Not Included?
Although this is a commendable project, keep in mind a few exceptions. The meal Rescue tool will not be able to provide perishable goods as shakes, smoothies, ice cream, or other meal requiring particular temperature management. This makes sense since these goods wouldn't be safe across a distance or longer delivery period. Furthermore, if you follow a vegetarian diet, your app will not show any non-vegetarian orders; Zomato is ensuring you only obtain meals fit for your dietary requirements.
A Towards Sustainability Step Towards
Zomato's new Food Rescue initiative advances a more sustainable and effective food delivery environment in addition to saving money or stopping food waste. Zomato is helping to reduce waste and provide a more ecologically friendly method of food delivery by guiding unclaimed or cancelled orders to people close by.
Zomato has tried to cut waste before; they have also been working on other environmental projects. However, this function elevates it much more since it not only benefits the restaurant and delivery partners but also lets consumers actively contribute to the environment.
Thus, look for those discounted cancelled orders the next time you open your Zomato app. At the same time, you will be helping reduce food waste while maybe scoring a great lunch for a fraction of the cost. It benefits the environment and your pocket book!
