Northeast Frontier Railway Launches QR Code Ticketing to Promote Digital Payments

The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has put QR code-based ticketing in place at 588 booking counters across its five divisions. This is a big step towards encouraging cashless transactions and supporting the government's Digital India program. By letting people book tickets digitally instead of using cash, this new method is meant to make train travel easier, safer, and more efficient for passengers.

The NFR network is made up of five main sections: Katihar, Rangiya, Alipurduar, Lumding, and Tinsukia. You can now find QR code readers at ticket counters in important stations in all of these sections. The move is part of the railway's ongoing work to improve services and meet the digitalisation goals of the country.

Officials from the NFR say that 588 ticket desks have been equipped with QR code readers, which have been sent to the following locations: There are 96 counters in Alipurduar, 87 in Rangiya, 175 in Lumding, and 63 in Tinsukia. This means that people who are travelling through most of the NFR network's important stations can now buy their train tickets using digital payment methods, which makes things easier and gives them more options.

People who use the ticketing system based on QR codes should get a lot of perks. First and foremost, it gets rid of the need for cash transactions. This makes buying tickets faster and cuts down on long lines at booths. People can buy their tickets directly from their phones or digital wallets by scanning the QR code at the station. This way, people don't have to deal with ticket agents in person. This makes deals faster and safer and reduces the amount of cash that needs to be handled, which is good for both hygiene and safety, especially now that the pandemic is over.

The QR system also helps with safety and ease goals by cutting down on cash use. It helps the effort to cut down on contact spots, which has become important since the COVID-19 pandemic, and makes sure that travellers have a smoother, faster trip.

Notably, passengers can use a number of digital tools to view the QR codes. It's never been easier to book a ticket, whether you use a banking app, a digital card, or the IRCTC website. People can finish their transaction, get an electronic ticket, and go straight to the station without having to wait in queue after scanning the QR code.

For the NFR, this is a big step towards making train services more modern. When the train uses technology and digital payments, it not only makes things easier for passengers, but it also helps India move towards a digital economy. The move should also help streamline operations, cut down on mistakes made with cash, and improve the general efficiency of ticketing.

As the number of people who travel by train keeps going up, the NFR's plan to use QR codes for tickets could be used as a model in other areas, making train rides easier and more available for everyone. Since technology is becoming more and more important in our everyday lives, the decision to digitise tickets seems like a good move that will keep Indian Railways at the forefront of public transportation innovation.
