IISER scientist killed after parking dispute with neighbour in Mohali

In a tragic incident in Mohali's Sector 66, a 39-year-old scientist from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER), Abhishek Swarnkar, lost his life following an assault by his neighbor over a parking dispute.
Swarnkar, originally from Jharkhand, had recently returned to India due to health concerns, including a kidney transplant and ongoing dialysis treatments. He resided in a rented accommodation with his elderly parents. Despite his known fragile health, his neighbor, Monty, an IT professional, allegedly attacked him during an argument over parking. The confrontation escalated quickly, with Monty reportedly abusing Swarnkar before knocking him to the ground and delivering repeated punches to his chest.
The incident was captured on CCTV. Witnesses recounted hearing loud shouts and witnessing Monty's assault. After Swarnkar lost consciousness, Monty transported him to a nearby hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival.
Local authorities have registered a case based on the family's complaint, with an autopsy scheduled to determine the exact cause of death. The IISER community expressed profound grief over the loss of a distinguished scientist, condemning the violence and urging strict action against the accused.
